COMMUNITY       STEP 4: IDENTIFY SPECIAL PLACES IN THE LAND WHICH HAVE SOME SOUL AND SHOULD BE KEPT AS IMPORTANT PUBLIC SPACES

Walk all around the site, again. Find places that have special meaning…existing trees, or natural features, or existing buildings…that should be maintained and developed as public spaces. Mark these places on the site, and on the map.

Any trees at all that exist on the site need to be protected at all costs, and allowed to define these special places.

Even if the site seems at first sight to be without such features, you will find on walking around the site that there are certain places which you come back to again and again, and which have a strong positive feeling. These places should be taken seriously, and may become public places. Mark them on the site, and on the map.

Some of these places may be for additional important trees, and public gardens, and these should be identified now.

Go to step 5: ESTABLISH A CENTRAL CHOWK OR WIDE PUBLIC STREET WHICH CONNECTS THE MOST IMPORTANT EXISTING CENTERS
