KEY ISSUES


Doing things in the right order when you shape a small house controls the resulting comfort of the house more than any other aspect of the design process.


Here are some of the aspects of the design sequence which MUST be done in the right order:

  1. The position of the main room in relation to the land
  2. The character of this room as it relates to the sky and trees and houses nearby
  3. The opportunity for a small outdoors which extends the useful area of the house
  4. The roof, as an embracing emblem of the house
  5. Relation to a single tree.
  6. What happens inside the main room and how big is the room
If you get these steps in the right order, there is a good chance the building will be comfortable. The main room dominates everything
